Trevor Immelman Wins the 2008 US Masters With 50/1 Odds

He opened as a long shot paying $5000 for every $100 bet.  Coming into Sunday, Trevor Immelman was an even favorite to win the 2008 US Masters after leading the whole time, and that's exactly what happened.  South African, Trevor Immelman, wins the 2008 US Masters.

Going for his first major championship, Trevor Immelman made clutch one putts on three straight holes around Amen Corner to build a five-shot Masters lead with fives holes to go Sunday, and he didn't fall behind.  Forget about pressure.

Tiger Woods was five strokes behind on a windy day at Augusta National, having squandered a chance to get closer when he missed a 5-footer for birdie at No. 13.

Immelman's lone victory on the U.S. PGA Tour came at the 2006 Western Open. He went on to win the tour's rookie of the year honors that year with eight top-10 finishes and a seventh- place finish on the money list.

Woods, in search of his fifth Masters title, hasn't won a major tournament when trailing after three rounds.

Stewart Cink and Brandt Snedeker finished ahead of Tiger Woods in second place.

Tiger Woods Odds to Win US Masters Improve Down Stretch

With only a few minutes remaining in the 2008 US Masters, Tiger Woods has improved his chances by moving into the number three position by 5:55 pm EST.  His odds coming into Sunday were listed at just over +300 or a payout possibility of $300 for every $100 bet.

South African golfer, Trevor Immelman, still led the way as he had for nearly the entire tournament.  He was 1-over on the front nine Sunday.

Relative unknown Steve Flesch sat in the second position.  He would pay over $10,000 for every $100 bet on him entering this year's Masters, though his odds have been slashed since.

Tiger Woods opened the tournament as an even favorite to win but got off to a rough start.  Oddsmakers were unwilling to reduce his odds much beyond 3/1 over the last two days.

Brandt Snedeker likewise would have paid nearly $13,000 for every $100 bet coming into this year's Masters.

Immelman, while at even odds coming into the final round, opened as a 50/1 long shot, paying $5000 for every $100 bet with a win.

Tiger Woods Wife The Leader

Tiger Woods may be a favorite to win the 2008 US Masters (still), and he may be a marketing goldmine for the sport, but little do people know how big a marketing tool Tiger Woods wife could be.

Emphasis on the term "could be".  She's not selling anything to the best of our knowledge, though she should based on Internet traffic numbers.

Each time a major golf event features Tiger Woods, his wife Elin Nordegren, gets more traffic searches than any single golfer, including her husband.

"We know Tiger is smart.  His wife probably is too.  The couple should start endorsing His or Her type products," suggests Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien.  "Or she can go solo."

Companies should be falling over backwards trying to sign on Ms. Nordegren.  But they are not.

Contrary to popular opinion, Tiger Woods Wife has never posed for nude photos that first made the Web rounds back in 2004.

Last year she successfully sued the Irish publication, The Dubliner, for essentially implying she was "a hoochie" - in not so many words.

"With Tiger moving up the US Masters leader board the final day, Elin should start to see plenty more searches," says O'Brien.

That was the case with the recent Championship golf tournament Tiger Woods appeared in.  It was the case last year when Woods played in the British Open and every other Masters Tournament.  In fact, Ms. Woods was among the most queried

Trevor Immelman US Masters Win Pays Even Odds for Some, $5000 for Others

An early bet on Trevor Immelman to win the 2008 US Masters would have paid out $5000 for every $100 bet.  Heading into Sunday's final round of the US Masters, Immelman's updated odds were slashed to even (bet $100 to win $100).   See Odds Trevor Immelman and other US Masters betting odds here

Immelman was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He took up golf at the age of five. He won the U.S. Amateur Public Links in 1998.  His best place to date has been 5th in the 2005 Masters.  Immelman also placed 6th in the 2007 PGA Championship.  He has led the 2008 US Masters throughout all three rounds heading into Sunday's final round.

His lead is somewhat miraculous considering health issues suffered just months prior to the US Masters.

On December 13, 2007 Immelman withdrew from the South African Airways Open due to severe discomfort around his ribcage area and a problem breathing. He went into surgery the following Tuesday, December 18, 2007, and doctors discovered a lesion approximately the size of a golf ball on his diaphragm. It was diagnosed as a calcified fibrosis tumor. After more tests they discovered that it was benign. This caused him to miss the first eight weeks of the 2008 PGA Tour season.

Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington Pay Big Heading Into US Masters Final Round

England's Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington offered outstanding odds heading into the US Masters Final Round on Sunday.  Casey, who stood the best shot of winning the jacket being only four down from the lead, would pay out $750 for every $100 bet at Sportingbet.

Harrington, who won last year's British Open, was within striking distance, holding onto the number 10 position.  He would pay out $8000 for every $100 bet.   Though Padraig Harrington was a long shot heading into the final round, he was also a major underdog during the 2007 British Open.  Ireland's largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, reported its biggest losses of the year thanks to the Harrington bets.

This is one of the fears for companies like Sportingbet and Paddy Power heading into Sunday.

"British, Scottish, Irish, Welsh gamblers will be all over Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington," Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien predicted Sunday morning.  "A win by either is likely to result in big losses for the British and Irish bookmakers."

Especially with Sportingbet offering live betting throughout the final round.

Alistair Prescott, European sports reporter for Gambling911, believes that the British books will see plenty of action during the day on Sunday.

"Assuming neither Casey, Harrington - and yes - Tiger Woods wins, the British bookies should fare relatively well on Sunday," Prescott suggested.

For companies like Sportingbet, which recently joined the Gambling911.com family of fine online sports betting sponsors, the sky has been the limit for the US Masters betting.

"Sportingbet represents one of the few European-based online sports betting firms offering betting odds on the 2008 Masters and live betting on the US Masters final round that is listed on the Gambling911.com website," said O'Brien.  "As such they have enjoyed almost exclusive exposure in this sector among the European bookmakers."

Gambling911.com has been providing the most extensive 2008 US Masters betting coverage of any other news site.

"They may curse us out though if either Harrington or Casey win though," O'Brien added.

Sportingbet was also offering betting odds on Tiger Woods final score.

Fractional Odds:

70 or Lower +110
71 or 72 +187
73 or 74 +500
75 or Higher +700

Decimal Odds:

71 or 72 2.875
73 or 74 6.00

2008 US Masters: Still Time to Bet

The 2008 US Masters concludes today (Sunday April 13) but that doesn't mean all bets are off.  BetUS.com - which was offering a free $100 on a $100 deposit - was offering US Masters betting odds throughout the day on Sunday.  In addition to head-to-head matchup odds, BetUS.com was offering betting on odds to win the 2008 US Masters tournament, including live betting throughout the remainder of the event.

"The US Masters has proven to be one of the most bet on events so far this year, a real cash cow for Gambling911.com sponsors," notes Payton O'Brien, Gambling911.com Senior Editor.  "It has provided a much needed boost for the incredible betting frenzy that takes place later this month with the Kentucky Derby."

Tiger Woods US Masters Odds Still Pay $300 for Every $100

Don't look now but Tiger Woods is starting to make some inroads up the Leader Board with only one more day left of the US Masters and his odds offered great value Saturday night heading into Sunday.  At +325, Tiger Woods promised to pay $325 for every $100 bet Bookmaker.com.

Woods was in 5th place coming into Sunday.

Trevor Immelman, who has remained in the lead since Thursday, had his odds slashed to even at Bookmaker.com.

Brandt Snedeker would pay $400 for every $100 bet.

Steve Flesch would pay out $800 for every $100 bet.

Paul Casey would pay $615 for every $100 bet.

These were all relatively unknowns that led Tiger Woods.  Three of them would offer much better payouts than Tiger.

Jim Litke of the AP writes:

The four names ahead of Tiger Woods going into Sunday's final round belong to guys who could have spent the last few years in golf's version of a witness-protection program. Steve Flesch, to pick one, is so little known that when he walked into the interview room at the Masters a day earlier, he was introduced as "Steve Fresh."

A win by Steve Fresh....err....Steve Flesch....would mean a payout of $15,000 for anyone who bet him prior to Thursday.  Gambling911.com was unaware of any Steve Flesch bets placed early.

Brad Snedeker has been a co-leader and was holding his own coming into Sunday in the number two position.  An early bet on Snedeker would pay $12,500 for every $100 bet.

US Masters Betting Odds (Adjusted After 2nd Round)

During the overnight hours and into Saturday morning, gamblers were able to once again bet on the US Masters.  Bookmaker.com was offering updated US Masters betting odds - adjusted after the 2nd round.

It is interesting to point out that Trevor Immelman, who led once again heading into Saturday, still would pay $450 for every $100 bet while Tiger Woods, trailing far behind, would pay out $375 for every $100 bet if he were to win the 2008 US Masters.

Phil Mickelson was creeping up to the lead heading into Saturday with odds that would pay nearly $300 for every $100 bet.

Brandt Snedeker has been in the number one and number two spots Friday.  He was still listed among the "Field" option paying out $425 for every $100 bet.

Among the Top 10 were five US players, Two British and one each from South Africa, Canada and Trinidad & Tobago.

US Masters: Live Betting Odds Offered

Just because the US Masters is already underway doesn't mean you still can't bet on it.  US Masters live betting odds will be available throughout the tournament.   Odds will also be updated at the end of each day at a number of online gambling sites.

BetUS.com was offering live betting on Ian Poulter to win the 2008 US Masters.  Odds of him winning at press time were listed at +6500 for a $6500 win on every $100 bet.  Joining now allows you to bet live throughout the US Masters.

Englishman Ian Poulter was atop the leaderboard at the very start of the tournament, which included a brief delay due to early morning fog.

Poulter is a member of the world's top two professional golf tours, the U.S. based PGA Tour and the European Tour.  Though hotly tipped as one of the brightest up and coming stars of the PGA European Tour since his first appearance in 2000,  with several appearances on the more prominent US PGA Tour he has not fulfilled his potential on the major stage and despite a string of good finishes in some of the worlds top events he has yet to break his duck by claiming any of the worlds top titles. Nevertheless Poulter is still highly regarded as one of the best golfers in Europe.   Whether he could keep his lead over a four day period remained to be seen.

Other leaders included Heath Slocumb, Englishman Nick Dougherty and Tiger Woods.

1st round six shooter and 1st round three ball betting was also being offered by BetUS.com heading into the afternoon hours.

US Masters Gets Underway After Delay

THE 72nd Masters got off to a hestitant start on Thursday as a stubborn early morning mist held up play for one hour making it touch and go whether the first round could be completed by nightfall.

When the action did finally get underway, US journeyman Heath Slocum grabbed the early lead, birdieing the par-three fourth and sixth holes to get to two-under on an Augusta National layout playing long after heavy rain earlier in the week.

The Masters debutant and world No.94 then birdied the par-five eighth to get to three-under, giving him a two-shot lead, although he bogeyed the par-four ninth.

Also among those posting red figures on the leaderboard were Englishman Ian Poulter, Australian veteran Peter Lonard, Spanish Ryder Cup star Miguel Angel Jimenez and American outsiders Justin Leonard and Scott Verplank.

The focus and attention though quickly switched to hot favoirite Tiger Woods who was opening his campaign for an unprecedented Grand Slam of all four majors with an 11:45 am (1745 GMT) start.

Shortly after sunrise, golfing legend Arnold Palmer had slapped the opening ceremonial drive down the first fairway.

The 78-year-old four-time Green Jacket winner, who played in 50 Masters, was back for a second straight year as honorary starter, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1963.

Palmer promptly stood aside after his effort to allow the first pairing in the elite 94-strong field to tackle the daunting Augusta National layout, but the poor visibility prevented any immediate play.

After a delay of one hour, the sun broke through the haze and former British Open Champion Ben Curtis and former USPGA champion Shaun Micheel set off in the first pairing.

Woods, seeking his fifth Green Jacket and 14th major title was playing in the company of US Open champion Angel Cabrera of Argentina and Stuart Appleby of Australia, who led entering the final round last year.

The world No.1 goes into the tournament with the lowest betting odds ever for a player at the outset of a major being quoted at just above evens to win his fifth Masters title.

Woods was nowhere to be seen on Wednesday, but the 32-year-old American played 18 holes of practice on Sunday and Monday followed by nine holes on Tuesday and in any case he knows the lines and contours of the famed layout as well as anyone.

No one is contesting that Woods will be in the thick of things down the back nine come Sunday afternoon. In the last seven years he has won three times and tied for second and third.

The question is whether someone else can be inspired enough by the occasion to raise his game and take up the challenge, as Zach Johnson did last year and Phil Mickelson did the year before that.

Two-times winner Mickelson, like Ernie Els and 2000 champion Vijay Singh, was among those with late starts who could be pushed to complete their rounds before the light fades.

Tiger Woods favored to win his fifth Masters at betED.com

Tiger Woods is the overwhelming favorite heading into the 2008 Masters Golf Tournament, the most prestigious event of the four PGA Majors.

Woods, who’ll be shooting for his fifth Green Jacket and 13th Major, is a -105 moneyline favorite at beted.com to win this weekend at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

Other top golfers at betED.com include Phil Mickelson, who has won the Masters twice in the past four years (’04 and ‘06), at +900, followed by Vijay Singh at +1800, Ernie Els at +2100, Geoff Ogilvy at +2500, and Retief Goosen at +2800.

Defending champion Zach Johnson, who surprised everyone with his win at the 2007 Masters, is +6500.

You can also wager on Masters matchups at betED.com. Woods is +130 to beat the field (-150).

The matchup most will be watching is Woods against his nemesis Mickelson. Woods is a -400 favorite to win that duel, while Mickelson is a +300 underdog. Some other matchups include Mickelson (-145) and Singh (+125), and Els (+100) and Ogilvy (-120).

No matter who wins, history will be made at this year’s tournament. The 2008 Masters marks the 50th anniversary of Arnold Palmer's first of four victories at Augusta National. And Gary Player will be competing in his 51st Masters, breaking the record for most consecutive appearances he shares with Palmer.

Palmer won the Masters every other year beginning in 1958 and ending in 1964. Only Jack Nicklaus has won more Green Jackets than Palmer and Woods, who each have four.

Woods will be trying to move past Palmer and begin his drive for golf's Grand Slam, something that has not been achieved since 1930 when Bobby Jones, co-founder of Augusta National, accomplished one of the rarest of all sports feats.

Nobody is even close to being favored to win the US Masters as is Tiger Woods this year.

Woods held all four major trophies at the same time when he won the Masters in 2001 after winning the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship the year before. But he has said he’s aiming for all four in the same year and, to that end, Woods took two weeks off to prepare for this year’s Masters.  Bet the 2008 Masters at betED.com here.

Betting on the 2008 US Masters Grows in Popularity

If your desire is to start betting on the 2008 US Masters this week, you are in good company.  The activity has drawn extensive interest, more so than in any past years.

While not on par (excuse the pun) with the likes of the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby or even the Academy Awards, US Masters Golf betting has its legions of supporters.  Then again, with a few days leading up to the event, traffic was really starting to explode.

European Group Winner Betting Odds in 2008 US Masters -

It should probably come as no surprise that last year's winner of the British Open is this year's European Group favorite to win the 2008 US Masters.  Padraig Harrington had European Group winner betting odds set at 5.00 at Sportingbet.com, proudly accepting the Euro but does not accept US customers.  Those living in the US can view betting odds for the 2008 US Masters here

Bookmaker.com has separated the Europeans into two groups: European and UK/Ireland so that Harrington is actually listed with near even or +150 odds - paying US$150 for every US$100 bet.  Harrington pays €400 for every €100 bet at Sportingbet.  Justin Rose pays €500; Luke Donald pays €850.

While Bookmaker.com allows for two winners with the split, Sportingbet offers the best payout odds for the group as a whole.

Last year, Harrington's British Open win proved to be the most crushing loss for Ireland's largest bookmaker, Paddy Power.

South Africa Group Winner US Masters Ernie Els has been instilled as the +175 favorite to win in the South African Group at this year's US Masters.  But Els has stiff competition in the 2008 US Masters where Retief Goosen is looking to become the top South African.

Els has been one of the top professional players in the world since the mid-1990s. A former World No. 1, he is known as "The Big Easy", for his imposing physical stature (he stands 1.90 metres) along with his fluid, seemingly effortless golf swing.

On March 2, 2008, Els won the Honda Classic contested at PGA National's Championship Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Els shot a final round 67 in tough windy conditions, which was enough to give him the win by one stroke over Luke Donald. The win marked the end of a three and a half year long stretch without a win on the PGA Tour for Els. The win was his 16th PGA Tour victory of his career.

Goosen's main achievements have been two U.S. Open wins (in 2001 and 2004), and heading the European Tour Order of Merit (money list) in 2001 and 2002.

Sportingbet.com offered South African Group winner betting odds, accepting most currencies including the South African Rand

Tiger Woods Odds to Win the 2008 US Masters

Tiger Woods is once again the favorite to win the 2008 US Masters.  It wouldn't matter how poorly he is playing over a period of time.  It doesn't matter how solid other participating golfers are or how many championships they have won (Australian Retief Goosen has walked off with two US Open wins for example), Tigers Woods will always be made the favorite by online bookmakers.

Woods will launch his bid for a fifth green jacket and 14th major title on Friday having triumphed in nine of his last 11 starts.   Only three players in the last 42 years have won consecutive titles at Augusta, but he's one of them, having done it in 2001 and '02.

Steve Stricker said that when Woods said it was within reason to win all four majors this year, he didn't blink.

"He's the only player capable of doing that," Stricker said. "And you know, I wouldn't be surprised if he does do it.

"I think the odds are not in his favor. There's so many good players . . . so many capable . . . of getting their own little runs and playing well. He's going to have to play at the top of his game to do it."

The best odds for Tiger Woods to win the 2008 US Masters in terms of payout potential can be found at Bookmaker.

You can get Tiger at just better than even odds.

Odds to win the 2008 US Masters were available online at BetUS.com.  Tiger Woods come into this US Masters as the huge underdog.  Okay, that was a joke.  But actually, he's a good value at near even odds.  A $115 bet pays out $100 (plus you get your initial bet back if Tiger Woods were to win).

Of course, the best payout odds are applied to those golfers whose names are NOT Tiger Woods.  Phil Mickelson is the only one paying single digit odds and even he pays out nicely:  $800 for every $100 bet.

2008 US Masters betting odds were courtesy of BetUS.com.  Please note that the online gambling site was also offering betting odds on who would win without Tiger Woods as well as Top 10 finishers, Top 2, Top 3, Top 4 and various other tournament specials.

The Top 10 finishers allows you to simply bet on whether a particular golfer is going to finish in the Top 10 at reduced odds.  For example, Geoff Ogilvy finishing in the Top 10 pays out $360 for every $100 bet.  Chris DiMarco pays $900 for every $100 bet.  You can find all these odds listed on the BetUS.com website.  Sergio Garcia could be a good economic stimulus bet paying out $270 for every $100 bet if he is to finish among the Top 10.

Geoff Ogilvy Continues With Strong Lead: Monday Finish Required

The CA Championship is headed for a Monday finish, the result of a long weather delay.

Threatening weather caused play to be halted early in the final round with the leaders through just two holes at Doral Resort's Blue Monster.

Competition resumed nearly three hours later but by then it was too late to have any hope of completing the round before darkness.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy continued to hold a four-shot lead after three holes. He was 17-under, while Englishman Graeme Storm and Australian Adam Scott were equal second at 13-under - also after three holes.

But Tiger Woods' seven-event winning streak was in grave jeopardy. He birdied the first two holes, but promptly bogeyed the next two to fall six strokes off the pace as his putting problems continued.

Earlier, Hartlepool's Storm carded a nine-under-par 63 when the weather-delayed third round was completed, coming home in 29 strokes, courtesy of an eagle and five birdies.

"I made the cardinal sin on the eighth hole of saying I'm putting great and the next thing I three-putt but I made everything coming in," said the 30-year-old former British amateur champion.

"To come back in 29 on a golf course like this is a massive confidence boost."
