Clive Archer, Other BetonSports Directors to Testify Against Kaplan, Carruthers

While BetonSports founder Gary Kaplan and former CEO David Carruthers rot away in either jail or in Carruthers case, house detention, the former Directors of BetonSports have plead guilty and will testify against both men once a trial date is set.

Meanwhile, thousands of BetonSports customers have been stiffed out of millions of dollars.

"The news is a “punch in the stomach” to Carruthers," writes Thomas Jensen of Point-Spreads.com  "The current board members and management team that agreed to work with federal prosecutors were recruited to BETonSPORTS by the former CEO."

Clive Archer had previously worked for MicroGaming and is likely to provide documentation regarding that online software provider and the US number 3 online poker provider as well.

"This plea, combined with the terms of the civil injunction should put an end to the BETonSPORTS illegal gambling empire," stated U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said in her statement.

Kaplan was arrested in March in the Dominican Republic on racketeering charges after being indicted in July 2006 by a U.S. grand jury. He and 10 others including former BETonSPORTS CEO David Carruthers are accused of engaging in racketeering, conspiracy and fraud.

Carruthers has steadfastly maintained his innocence throughout this ordeal.  He had been detained while changing flights in Fort Worth, Texas last July.

Lawyers for some of the defendants are working to have the trial moved to Florida, citing St. Louis among the worst courts for defendants, especially in gambling-related cases.
