BetonSports
Founder in Good
Hands Claims
Confidant
A
close associate of
BetonSports founder,
Gary Kaplan, told
Gambling911.com that
the imprisoned
Kaplan has the best
attorney a man can
ask for.
Kaplan was captured
last year after
several indictments
were handed down in
July 2006 against
him, his one time
CEO and BetonSports
itself. The US
Government claimed
that the company was
illegally accepting
bets from US
citizens while most
of the individual
defendants were
charged with an
assortment of other
crimes.
Kaplan finally
received some
positive news late
this week after a
magistrate judge
recommended that
prosecutors drop
several of the
charges, including
tax evasion and
obstruction.
His
confidant tells
Gambling911.com that
Gary Kaplan has had
to let go other
prominent attorneys
to get to the
position he is in
now.
"He has/had many
lawyers, and has
fired 5 of them to
date. Gary
also fired Ben
Brafman."
Brafman is the noted
defense attorney who
has worked on behalf
of mobsters and hip
hop mogul P. Diddy.
He also defended
another online
gambling company
founder, Jay Cohen,
unsuccessfully.
"His
lead attorney is
Chris Flood, who is
much more notable
than Brafman,"
claims the
confidant.
"Chris Flood of
Flood and Flood was
one of the defense
attorneys in the
ENRON case in
Houston. Flood also
started his career
with Dick DeGuerin (
who G fired
previously) who
defended congressman
Tom Delay."
BetonSports closed
down almost
immediately
following the
indictments being
announced.
Kaplan had little
involvement with the
company at that
point.
Gambling911.com has
reported that in our
opinion there is
practically a zero
chance that Gary,
who gave generously
to Costa Rican
orphanages, would
have closed the
company down if he
were still running
it.
"Gary
regrets no longer
being in charge of
BetonSports," a
family member told
Gambling911 just
prior to the
indictments. "He
wanted an exit
strategy to spend
more time with his
family."
But
the family member
said Kaplan had
become dismayed over
how his one time
company had become
so terribly
mismanaged.
BetonSports founder
is not the only
online gambling
magnate being
represented by high
priced attorneys.
Ruth Parasol, the
founder of
PartyGaming, is
utilizing the
services of an
attorney who helped
out President Bill
Clinton during the
Monica Lewinsky
scandal.
