PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Domingo German (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Orioles RH David Hess (1-0, 0.00)

German's season debut was a successful one as he limited Detroit to one hit and an unearned run over five innings on Monday. The 26-year-old Dominican registered seven strikeouts but also struggled with his control, issuing five walks. German has made two relief appearances against Baltimore in his career, allowing three runs and five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 5 1/3 frames.

Hess was superb in his first start of the season on Monday as he struck out eight batters and walked one over 6 1/3 hitless innings at Toronto. The 25-year-old Tennessean threw 50 of his 82 pitches for strikes but was pulled after retiring the first batter he faced in the seventh. Hess allowed two runs over five frames versus the Yankees in a no-decision last season and worked two scoreless innings of relief against them on March 28.
