Australia World Cup Cinderella

The Socceroos will continue to live the dream when they take on Italy for a place in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Kaiserslautern on Wednesday.

Canbet (See Web Site Here)  currently has Australia as a definitive underdog in the Final 16 encounter at +555* while Italy is -192 (on Canbet) and the Draw is +300.

The Socceroos beat Japan 3-1 in their World Cup opener before losing to the reigning World Champions Brazil, 2-0.  The third and final group game saw Australia secure a deserved 2-2 draw against Croatia to book their place in the last 16.

Harry Kewell is a doubtful starter for this crunch match against Italy with a groin injury while Mark Schwarzer returns in goal after Zeljko Kalac blundered when given the opportunity in Australia’s last group game against Croatia.

Italy will make one forced change with defender Alessandro Nesta ruled out of this encounter because of a thigh strain with Marco Materazzi taking his place in the starting 11.

Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink has been to the World Cup finals three times as a national team coach. Twice before, with both Holland and South Korea, his team finished fourth.
