Anna Benson impromptu press conference follows Mets game

Sultry Anna Benson, the wife of former Mets pitcher Kris Benson, held an impromptu press conference this past weekend, after her hubby's new team beat New York 4-2.

"I am actually feeling generous," she said. "I was going to offer to send a case of K-Y Jelly down to the Mets' clubhouse. For as many guys that are prepared to use it. Give me a number."

Anthony McCarren of The New York Daily News wrote:

It couldn't have been a better return to Shea for Kris Benson if his wife had scripted it herself. And saucy Anna Benson, part of the reason her husband was shipped out of town last winter, relished it while watching from behind home plate before launching into one of her trademark rants.

With Met fans booing Benson and mocking him with shouts such as "Let's go, Anna," the ex-Met survived a shaky first inning and showed his former teammates he may have been able to help this season after all. Benson not only threw eight strong innings last night, but slugged his first career homer - off Pedro Martinez, no less - in the Orioles' 4-2 victory in front of 52,320.

Anna also clipped Shea, comparing it unfavorably with her hubby's new baseball digs, Camden Yards. She said she was out "puffing a cigarette" when Kris homered. "My brother-in-law, Kris' younger brother, came out screaming in my face that he hit a home run," she said. "Who would have thought it? I sat there the whole game and the only time he hits a home run, I am out there."

When he was traded, there were whispers that Mets management wanted to distance itself from his wife, Anna Benson, especially after she appeared at a children's charity function in a low-cut Mrs. Santa Claus outfit and once threatened to sleep with all of her husband's teammates if he ever committed adultery. When he was traded - after he publicly let it be known he wanted to stay in New York - Anna Benson on her Web site accused Mets GM Omar Minaya of trying to "Latinize" the Mets.

Meanwhile, the New York Mets are enjoying their best season in years.  At press time June 21, 2006 they were listed with 9 to 4 odds of winning the National League pennant and 5 to 1 odds of winning the 2006 World Series.  Those later odds would pay out $500 for every $100 bet at VIPsports.com (See Web Site Here) should they win.
