The show has a similar format as American Idol, with a panel of celebrity judges casting votes on performers of all ages – and talent levels. And like Idol, the show travels to various U.S. cities for auditions, with the most recent episode in Chicago and the next in New York City.
The show is hosted by tabloid talk-show host Jerry Springer, who took over from Regis Philbin, and the panel of judges is made up of David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne.
Among the Chicago acts that advanced to the second round are: Jason Pritchett, who sang and played guitar for the song Live Like You Were Dying; Terry Fator, a ventriloquist who, in a duet with his puppet, sang At Last by Etta James; Butterscotch, a beatboxer/singer, who performed/beatboxed Love to Love You Baby; Boy Shakira, a Shakira impersonator, who belly danced; The Fault Line, progressive vocal rock band; Ada Lynn, an 80-year old singer/comedienne.
Among the acts that didn’t make the cut were: Mr. Heart & Soul, a mime who was criticized for being a singing/talking mime; Charlie the Whistler, who played banjo and whistled; L.A. Penetrate, a rock band; Coolaid, a youth center hip-hop dance troupe; Hot Pink Feathers, a burlesque dance group; and Alex Mooney, who broke things with his butt.
