American
Idol Top 12
Performance Show:
Chikezie "She's a
Woman" Red HotWe were out of breath watching Chikezie appear second among the American Idol Top 12. Hot performance indeed and who would have thunk it. Chikezie performed a wild version of "She's a Woman", a song penned by Paul McCartney. All the songs performed during Tuesday night's two hour introduction to the American Idol top 12 were songs written by either Paul McCartney or John Lennon. "She's a Woman" was originally McCartney's attempt to emulate Little Richard. Some takes of the song (especially recordings of live concerts) feature an extended outro. Chikezie started with a sit down banjo arrangement, which was the most subdued portion of the performance. Chikezie's was outstanding and one of the best performances of the season thus far. Greater still is that he's a shoe-in to move onto next week's round of American Idol. Get this - Chikezie would pay out $100 for every $1 if he were to win American Idol (see latest odds to win American Idol here) Ramiele Malubay - with 14 - 1 odds of winning American Idol was a total bore and all the judges - including Paula Abdul - tended to agree. Carly Smithson performed "Come Together". Judge Randy Jackson called it "Stellar". Judge Simon Cowell also liked it saying that "This reminds me six years ago, exactly the same week, Kelly Clarkson." David Cook came out with his own arrangement of "Eleanor Rigby" and he's reminding us a lot of Chris Daughtry but maybe better. This guy is red hot! Brook White performed "Let it Be" on the piano and should easily slide into the next round. Amanda Overmyer was hot again this week. "You Can't Do That" - You can do that apparently....taking a Beatles song and placing into a down home Southern bar. "Nothing's Gonna Change My World" was performed by Australia's own Michael Johns, who sounds a bit like Eddie Vedder. Loved it. Kristy Lee Cook: "Dolly Parton on helium" sounded about right. That's how Simon Cowell described her. David Archuleta - the favorite to win - just was not very good this week. It was his weakest performance thus far, according to Simon Cowell. I'm Carrie Stroup and we're here live during the American Idol Top 12 performance show.
