American Idol Country Music Week: Stacey, Sparks Opens Strong

AddThis Social Bookmark Button It's judge Simon Cowell's least favorite genre perhaps but American Idol Country Music theme night may have been just what the doctor ordered to resuscitate this batch of American Idols.

This is Carrie Stroup reporting for Gambling911.com and don't forget you can bet on all your favorite American Idols at Sportsbook.com (see website here)

Phil Stacey - the favorite to be eliminated this week - turned out a surprisingly solid performance and all the judges agreed.  It was obvious this was his genre.

But even more shocking was Jordin Sparks incredible performance that followed and had Simon Cowell comment this was the first time he believed she could actually win American Idol.  Honestly, that may have been the best performance this season so far.  She had the audience cheering throughout.  Great job.

Then there was Sanjaya.  He performed "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" by Bonnie Raite.  The judges hated it and even Paula Abdul had a tough time giving him props.  I actually didn't think it was all that bad though.  It's possible this could be Sanjaya's last stand though.

Lakisha Jones followed with what I thought was a good performance but that lacked some of the personality she needs to get by at this stage in the game.  The judges were critical of her performance and felt it was the wrong song.

Chris Richardson was up next and I believe despite what the judges felt he will appeal to all those country fans out there.  I agree it was nothing earth shattering but he definitely fit the genre.  Simon called it "nasaly" if that's a word - and my spell check says it's not.

Who thinks Memphis girl Melinda Doolittle can't sing country?  She was fantastic and the judges loved it.

Blake Lewis closed off with a great falsetto.  I liked the song a lot.  Nice song choice and the judges liked it too.

Sanjaya's been fun but it's really time for him to go.  But it's between him, Chris, Lakisha and Phil (who might get by this week).
