American Idol Latin Night Recap

AddThis Social Bookmark Button Tuesday night was Latin Night on American Idol and we started off with two of this season's hottest Idols, Melinda Doolittle and Lakisha Jones.  Both looked smashing.

This is Carrie Stroup reporting for American Idol reminding you to get your bets in this Thursday on who will win Season 6 of American Idol at Sportsbook.com (see website here)

Simon was just itching to go bitching about Doolittle's performance and finally got the chance, though I would tend to disagree.  I thought she was fantastic this evening.

Lakisha got it from both Paula and Simon, who felt her "Conga" performance was "playing it safe".  And I would tend to agree with that assessment.  She looked great though.

The judges liked Chris Richardson, who they felt was more contemporary as opposed to the "cabaret" performances Simon claimed came out of Melinda and Lakisha.  It was a "sexy" performance as well, which should carry him into next week.  Honestly, it didn't blow this girl over though and thus far I felt Melinda came off the best of the first three.

Next up we had Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey.  Haley looked more sexy than ever but karaoke?  Yes it was.  In fact, I kept thinking to myself...."Great backup singers".

And Phil Stacey?  Boring.  He capped off his performance with a bad baby joke too.  Ouch!

Jordin, Jordin, Jordin....Jordin Sparks came across as bland and to be honest, I thought the judges were pretty easy on her.

Blake Lewis followed doing a really good Mark Anthony.  The judges - including Simon - agreed.  Best performance of the night.  I agree.  This is not Blake's genre, but he pulled it off.  Good job and he exuded confidence.

But does any of this really matter?

Okay so they were saving Sanjaya's hair for last!

But hey, give it up for Sanjaya.  He was actually pretty good and maybe this is his genre.  Sang it in Spanish and when the English part came out....not the best.  He sounds best in Spanish.

Blake Lewis 9-2

Chris Richardson 25-1

Haley Scarnato 50-1

Jordin Sparks 11-5

Lakisha Jones 6-1

Melinda Doolittle 10-11

Phil Stacey 50-1

Sanjaya Malakar 10-1
