American Idol: Jordin Sparks a 1 to 40 Favorite Over Lewis

Online gambling website Bookmaker.com raised the bar Wednesday, making Jordin Sparks a virtual "lock" to win American Idol, though nothing is ever really a true "lock".  The site posted odds on Sparks at -4000 or 1 to 40 odds of winning the popular singing competition.

For gamblers who love Sparks, this isn't necessarily a good thing.  Then again one can look at it as "easy money" also.

At -1700 odds, you would have to bet $40 to win a mere $1 and essentially walk away with $41 ($1 plus your initial $40 bet).  $80 would earn you a $2 profit.

"American Idol high rollers can bet $4000 to win $4100 and of course get their initial $4000 bet back," comments Gambling911.com resident Idol betting expert, Payton O'Brien.  "Essentially, this is probably a good bet if you want to buy a box of chocolates for your significant other and just happen to have $4000 on deposit in your betting account."

Good bet if Sparks were to win, and every indicator suggests that she will.

But judge Simon Cowell hinted that Blake Lewis outperformed Sparks even though his vocals did not even come close.

Even more importantly, Bookmaker.com (see website here) has been notoriously wrong throughout the entire American Idol Season 6, paying thousands of dollars in Idol bets to lucky customers.

The online gambling firm, which was started in 1986 and remains the oldest established Internet based gambling company catering to North America, has Blake Lewis listed with +1700 odds as of Wednesday morning.  What does this mean for gamblers should Blake Lewis somehow manage to win American Idol?

"A $100 bet would pay out $1700!" O'Brien advised.  "Every $1 bet would pay out $17."
