The first round went to Melinda Doolittle who sounded incredible doing what is often considered a death knell on American Idol.....a Whitney Houston song.
Few can compare to Whitney, but Doolittle came dangerously close.
Jordin Sparks brought it home with her final song even though Simon thought it was "too old" for her.
There is no mistaking Blake Lewis' originality, but will Idol viewers be able to relate to his final performance?
Simon actually really liked the last performance and told him he liked Blake for "not playing it safe".
But who is safe?
Sparks is probably in there after her solid performances. The concern with Melinda Doolittle is that she may just be missing that edge and American Idol viewers might not be able to relate to her slightly older style.
Blake Lewis was the -300 favorite to be voted off this week. Both Doolittle and Sparks were expected to move on by the oddsmakers, of which
