American
Idol: Performance
Night - April 22,
2008
American Idol kicked
off with a shocker
in Syesha Mercado
doing Andrew Lloyd
Webber - the week's
theme. "She
was brilliant!' and
the judges thought
so too.
This is Carrie
Stroup reporting for
Gambling911.com with
your American Idol
performance night
breakdown for April
22, 2008.
Judge Randy Jackson
is right, this girl
can definitely do
Broadway. It
appeared early on
that Syesha Mercado
would be sailing
through to the next
round.
The judges felt the
same way I did: Had
no idea this girl
had it in her.
She was really in
her element tonight.
Randy called Jason
Castro's performance
a bit of a "train
wreck". One
thing I notice about
Jason is that he
takes a lot of heavy
breaths while
singing. Am I
the only one who
notices this.
Simon said "You came
across as a young
man forced to sing
this song during a
wedding".
Ouch!
Brooke White
blundered in the
beginning. She
had to stop and
start again.
She admitted to
forgetting the
lyrics but it caused
her to strain the
vocals at times.
This may be her last
hurrah.
Little David
Archuleta was up
next. I felt
this would have been
his night coming in.
David was good but
it wasn't his best
in my opinion.
Randy said "It was
da bomb" however.
Paula Abdul thought
it was "perfect" and
Simon thought it was
"pleasant and one of
his weakest
performances and all
a bit forgettable to
me". Totally
agree there. I
won't remember this
performance.
Amazingly, Miami
Beach's own Syesha
Mercado was the most
memorable
performance by a
long shot and after
Brooke's debacle,
she'll easily move
into the top 5 as
will David Archuleta
for that matter.
Carly Smithson sang
"Jesus Christ
Superstar" and it
was one of the best
of the night so she
should move on.
David Cook closed
and who knew he had
it in him either.
The rocker grew up
performing Broadway.
Powerful
performance.
