Show April 15, 2008Carrie Stroup here with your American Idol performance show for April 15, 2008 and we were down to 7 following last week's shocking elimination of Australian Michael Johns. Tuesday night's show featured none other than Mariah Carey acting as mentor for the remaining Idols. E=MC˛ is Mariah's latest album, released the same day as her Idol appearance. Two weeks before the album's release, on April 2, 2008, "Touch My Body" became Carey's eighteenth number-one single on the Hot 100, pushing her past Elvis Presley into second place for the most number-one singles among all artists in the rock era, according to Billboard magazine's revised methodology . Carey is now second only to The Beatles who have twenty number-one singles. Remember Gambling911.com is your source for all the latest American Idol betting odds. David Archuleta kicked off the night. Move over Mariah. Wow! David was fantastic. What a start to the night and the judges love it, including Simon Cowell. And he took on the Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston duet "Believe". Simon pointed out that the guys will have a better time of it Tuesday night since there won't be the comparisons. Carly Smithson was up next with "I Can't Live". Randy liked that she challenged herself with the big vocals. It was a little tough at the beginning, as Randy pointed out. Simon wanted to hear her sing this song. "Could you pull it off and I don't think you did," said Simon in terms of the comparison. He felt she was capable of taking on Carey but Simon said it was just an "okay" version. Syesha Mercado was up next. I gotta tell you, that wasn't bad at all, more captivating than Carly's. Paula made a good point that unlike past week's Syesha picked a song that was not very well known. Simon said it was very good but was concerned about her selection of a song that not too many people knew. I think she has a good shot of moving on. Brooke White performed one of my favorites "Hero" and I wasn't really into it. I felt it was dry and a little rushed. Without the piano, she would have been especially dry. Randy liked it to some extent but pointed out some of the "off" nights as did Paula. Simon said "It was a bit like ordering a hamburger and only getting the bun. Kristy Lee Cook was performing "Forever" and Mariah said she felt Kristy performed it better than herself and gave her goose bumps during the audition. There was a little bit of a country twang there, which I liked. Nice vocals as well and perhaps better than the other three girls before her. I liked it. Randy thought it was okay but Paula really loved it. "You didn't give me chills," said Simon. "I thought you were quite smart. It wasn't great". Personally, I think she might do well though. I'm leaning more towards Paula's opinion. We shall see. David Cook was doing "Always be my Baby" and it was going to be unique based on the audition segment. As always, very original. Like this kid a lot and he looked great. Brilliant performance. Randy said "More than anybody else on this show you are ready to make an album." Paula said "That was pretty awesome, that song can be in a movie soundtrack right now". "It was like coming into Karaoke Hell into something very refreshing.," referring to the previous night's performances. David Cook moves on for sure. Jason Castro did "I Don't Wanna Cry" - another unique version with guitar in the background. His modern version of "Over the Rainbow" was fantastic last week. For Randy "I didn't really love it. I felt like I was in a really weird luau and sitting in a distance". Paula said she would love to be in that luau. Simon didn't know what a luau was but agreed with Paula. He thought it was a "really cool version and the guys completely won the night". Here were your American Idol betting odds coming into this week as the Idols try to tackle Mariah Carey and that is going to be a tough one.
