American Idol Performance Show - April 1, 2008

This week's American Idol performance show was all about Dolly Parton, who were learn has penned more than 3000 songs.  It was going to be interesting to see how the Idols perform in the shadows of the legend, Ms. Parton.

The favorites coming in to this evening were David Archuleta and David Cook.

Nine American Idol contestants were left.  Below you will find the odds of which person would win American Idol this season.  Scroll down for the latest performance reviews.

Odds Appear Below

Brooke White 7 - 1

Carly Smithson 10 - 1

David Archuleta 6 - 5

David Cook 8 - 5

Jason Castro 30 - 1

Kristy Lee Cook 75 - 1

Michael Johns 8 - 1

Ramiele Malubay 50 - 1

Syesha Mercado 12 - 1

Brooke White kicked things off on the guitar and she was very Dolly-like.  Nobody was particularly crazy about her performance.  I believe it won't be very memorable.

Next up, David Cook doing his own version of "Little Sparrow".  It's not a cover of a cover that he's taken some flack over, which in my opinion is beyond ridiculous.  He's performed outstanding.  Another hot consistent performance, Randy said.  Paula said "fantastic!" and Simon says "If you can make a song about sparrows good, as you actually did, congratulations".

Ramiele Malubay's performance was described as "something you'd here on a cruise ship".  He commented "We won't be remembering that one 10 years from now, will we?".

Jason Castro got decent reviews from the judges except - SIMON, who said he will probably lose his season pass to Dollywood at this point.

Carly was up next singing "Here You Come Again" sounding great.  This was a song not written by Dolly Parton but one she has sung throughout her career.  It was one of the better performances of the night.

David Archuleta was up next.  Dolly had said that she felt he had the potential to become a great singer.  He was back on top of his game tonight.  Fantastic performance.  Beautiful song.  The judges loved it.

Kristy Lee Cook was up next.  This format probably fit her best of all the Idols.  She looked stunning and her best performance according to Paula.  Simon said "Pleasant but forgettable.

Syesha was doing something dangerous, performing Dolly's biggest hit ever "I Will Always Love You", which Whitney made a monster chart topper.  She hit it with that last note though.  The judges had mixed reactions.  The audience loved it though.  I thought it was quite good.

Michael Johns was really good to close off the show.  I think one of his best performances to date.

Randy loved it.  Paula said "You're a star and you look gorgeous".  Simon said "This is the best I have heard you sing."
