Alberto Gonzales Has a Friend in Arizona Senator Jon Kyl

As the Iowa Straw Poll gets underway Saturday, The Arizona Republic is questioning the "unusual behavior" of Candidate John McCain's colleague, Senator Jon Kyl and his stance regarding Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

And you know the old saying: "With friends like (Jon Kyl), who needs any enemies?"

The editorial piece may very well echo the sentiment of fellow Arizona citizens, and maybe even the US nation as a whole.

Senator Jon Kyl questions Alberto Gonzales about.....Internet Gambling?

What's with Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl?

Upon running for re-election as an immigration hard-liner, after securing another term he adopted what he had derided as Democrat Jim Pederson's policy of amnesty.

While much of the Republican Party is appalled at Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' incompetency, Kyl is an apologist. Jon spends his hearing time asking Alberto about Internet gambling. Kyl already ushered in a Draconian law regarding Internet gambling, serving his role as nanny-in-chief and the interests of his casino benefactors.

Now, Kyl's purpose seems to be as de facto head of the Republican National Committee. He spends most of his time giving speeches about Democrats, unable to grasp that the GOP brings the Senate to a halt and then blames Democrats for not getting anything done.

Republican members destroy FEMA's ability to respond to natural disasters and then hold it up as an example of why you can't trust government to do anything right.

They lose a war via unparalleled military incompetence and then claim that liberals are defeatists for pointing it out.

They spend 20 years claiming that Social Security is going bankrupt and then use the resulting public insecurity about Social Security as an explanation for why the whole system needs to be privatized.

Trade organization, iMEGA.org, has filed action against Attorney General Gonzales and the Federal Reserve, calling the Internet gambling prohibition "Unconstitutional".  A hearing on this matter is scheduled for September 4.
