Sketch made of ex-Winnipegger's suspected killer

INVESTIGATORS in Puerto Rico now have an artist's sketch of a suspect in the slaying of Winnipeg native Adam Anhang. The 32-year-old entrepreneur was stabbed to death after he and his wife were attacked by two men outside a restaurant in San Juan.

Police have interviewed Aurea Vazquez Rijos, a woman believed to be Anhang's wife, who provided details of the attacker to a police sketch artist. Rijos was also injured in the attack.

No arrests have been made.

Funeral services for Anhang were held in Winnipeg yesterday afternoon at the Herzlia Synagogue on Brock Street.

Anhang, the son of former Winnipeg lawyer Abraham Anhang, was a real estate developer and partner in an online gambling company. Puerto Rico investigators said yesterday they have no motive for the slaying and have not ruled out robbery, though neither Anhang's wallet, passport nor jewelry were taken.

Police are still awaiting results of a forensic examination of the knife used to kill Anhang, which was left at the scene.

A spokesman with the San Juan homicide unit said the couple was approached by a suspect dressed in exercise clothing, who apparently yelled out, "This is a robbery."

San Juan homicide director Lt. Eddie Hernández said Anhang's widow told investigators there were two assailants.

"When the robbery was announced, (Anhang) offered them money," Hernández told a reporter with the San Juan Star, recalling Rijos' version of the incident. "One of them pushed her and Adam intervened, and that's when the supposed struggle started with the killer and the victim.

According to police, Anhang suffered several knife wounds, including three in his head, one on his back and two on the left side of his neck. Rijos also sustained a wound on the right side of the head.

San Juan police are investigating the possibility the wealthy businessman was targeted.

"We don't discard any motive up to now because there is a lot of money in the middle... we're talking about millions," Hernández said. "I think that the properties (Anhang) has surpass $50 million."

Anhang was the chief executive officer of CWC Gaming, which licenses live-webcam casino software that broadcasts live dealers playing real casino games in real time.
