Academy Awards Betting Odds (2008)

The Academy Awards betting odds for 2008 were released as soon as the nominations were named.  Here you will find all the latest betting odds and articles on Hollywood's biggest event as the days got closer.  Betting on the Academy Awards has been described as a "mini Super Bowl" by bookmakers who compare the frenzy to that of the biggest single wagering event of the year.

This Oscar betting season was the most bet on ever and surpassed the Super Bowl in terms of overall inquiries at Gambling911.com.

No Country for Old Men Wins Oscar for Best Picture

No Country for Old Men wins the Oscar for Best Picture as the frontrunner coming in.  It was listed with around 1/3 odds and was widely expected to win.

The film was written, directed, and produced by Joel and Ethan Coen and stars Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and Javier Bardem, who won for "best supporting actor" earlier in the evening.

2008 Oscar Winners (And Payouts)

The 2008 Oscar Winners were coming in following a record shattering day here at Gambling911.com.  This is Carrie Stroup and we have been slammed all day as millions of people take part in the ultimate celebration of the Oscars - Academy Awards betting.

2008 Oscar Picks (From The Bookies)

A little earlier we presented you with some of our own 2008 Oscar picks.  Nearly all were in agreement with the oddsmakers and general betting public with the notable exception of the "best supporting actress" nod.

For some of the more obscure categories, we'll just go along with the flow since we know little about these offerings.  But for gamblers, it is important to know that these categories can be bet on.  In this uncharted territory, we are as dumb as the oddsmakers.  Some of you have information we simply do not.

Bookies Stop Taking Bets on Some Oscar Categories

A few years back, Jamie Foxx was such a massive favorite to win for "best actor" in the film about Ray Charles aptly titled "Ray" that few punters even bothered betting.  The bookies simply left the odds up, probably realizing that nobody wanted to lay $100 or whatever the amount was to win a buck.

This year, it's the same category that is giving bookies fits but the odds aren't nearly as astonishing.

Jon Stewart Castro Retirement Joke: You Can Bet On It

Think 2008 Academy Awards host Jon Stewart will crack a joke about Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro retiring at any time during the Oscar presentation?  You can bet on it.

There Will Be Blood Oscar Win Very Possible: Would Pay Close to 3/1 Odds

There Will be Blood on hands of bookies if gamblers make out big

If you listen to the public and just about everyone else in the media, it appears that No Country For Old Men will be this year's big "best picture" winner.  But wait!  Wasn't that what they said about Brokeback Mountain two years ago?  Ultimately it was Crash, paying $5 for every $1 bet, that walked off with the Oscar for "best picture".

Ratatouille Oscar Betting Odds

Ratatouille is the closest thing we know of to a "lock" in this year's Oscars.  Betting odds on Ratatouille can be found at BetUS.com in their Sportsbook section under "Future/Props" and "80th Oscars 2008" (remember you will need to keep scrolling down to see the new links and odds come up).

Ratatouille requires a rather large risk for a nominal reward.  A $10 bet pays out a whopping $1.  A $20 bet pays out $2 and so on.  But if Ratatouille wins, you get those initial bet amounts back in addition to your winnings.  So in essence, betting on Ratatouille is like making easy money...if you want to think of it in that way.

Ratatouille is the Pixar animated feature that tells the story of Rémy (voiced by Patton Oswalt), a rat living in Paris who wants to be a chef, but is pressured to do otherwise by the disapproval of his family and the prejudice of humans.  It was released on June 29, 2007 in the United States, to both critical acclaim and box office success.

Persepolis and Surfs Up are the other two nominees.  They both pay out around $4.50 for every $1.00 bet.

BetUS.com is offering Oscar betting odds for most of the major categories and even a few of the more obscure ones.

2008 Oscar Predictions.... And Payouts

It's one thing to come out with 2008 Oscar predictions, but for the gambler who thinks Daniel Day-Lewis is a "lock" to win for "best actor", be prepared to risk $16 just to win a whopping $1!  You can still do this at BetOnline.com whereas Bookmaker.com has already removed the "best actor" option (at least for the time being).   Too many "sharps" taking advantage.

Oscar Betting Frenzy Kicks Off Early

Gambling911.com can safely predict that this year's Oscar betting activity will be the most active on record to date.

"By Sunday morning, traditionally the slowest traffic period of the week outside of the overnight hours, traffic was triple the norm," declared Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com website.  "We were witnessing massive inquiries for Oscar betting and all the various odds with nearly 10 more hours until show time."

Oscar Vegas Odds: Fuggetaboutit

Unlike Super Bowl weekend in Vegas, there won't be any betting on the Oscars.  Oscar Vegas odds are nowhere to be found.  This is because it is illegal to place such bets in the Sin City....That itself is a sin, we here at Gambling911.com believe.

And the Oscar Goes To......John McCain?:  Arianna Huffington Says Oscars Has McCain Written All Over It

"Given the week he's just had, you have to figure John McCain is looking for a story -- any story -- to come along and take the media spotlight off him (at least until the next well-polished lobbyist shoe falls). And what better distraction than America's favorite celebrity engorge-athon, the Academy Awards?"

Johnny Depp, George Clooney Favorites to Win Best Actor Oscar Among Web Surfers

Johnny Depp and George Clooney may be big underdogs to win this year's Oscar Award for "Best Actor".  Don't tell that to either actor's loyal fan base.

Academy Awards Betting:  Odds Vary Between Online Gambling Sites

When it comes to Academy Awards betting, no online gambling website is created equal.  It is important to study a handful of websites to determine which has the best payout odds for each category.

Of particular focus would be both the "Best Actress" and the "Best Supporting Actress", each of which enjoys a tight race and therefore a decent size payout is more likely compared to say the "Best Actor" award where an upset would translate into a windfall but the odds are too heavy in Daniel Day-Lewis's favor.

Oscar Nominee Javier Bardem at Center of Ashton Kutcher's "Hepatitis" Birthday Scare

It was not a very happy birthday for actor Ashton Kutcher, but rather a "hepi" birthday for everyone else who attended, including Oscar nominee Javier Bardem.  Nominated for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" and the huge favorite to win at Bookmaker.com, Bardem reportedly was exposed to the Hepatitis A viral infection this week during the 30th birthday party for Kutcher.

The good news is that none of the celebrities in attendance were the "infectors" so to speak, thus, it is not believed that at press time any one of them had the Hepatitis virus.  Still, health officials urged anyone in attendance to seek medical attention immediately, including Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The alert was sounded after a barman at the New York club venue was found to have the highly contagious liver disease.

Ellen Page Oscar Odds at +530 as Canada Prepares to Take Home Award

Canada's own, Ellen Page, has been nominated for an Oscar this year for her role in Juno.  At +530 odds (a $1.00 bet pays out $5.30), the "Best Actress" category is much tighter than some of the other Academy Awards inclusions such as "Best Actor" where Daniel Day-Lewis is such a huge favorite.

Academy Awards Best Supporting Actress Odds: Best Variety in Betting This year's Academy Awards features a tight race among the "Best Supporting Actress" nominees with any three potentially being categorized as favorites among the oddsmakers.  This is by far the best category for anyone looking for value.

Academy Awards Best Actor Odds 2008: Daniel Day Lewis Another Huge Favorite

The Academy Awards Best Actor odds for 2008 can be viewed in either one of two ways.  With Daniel Day-Lewis the big -1400 favorite offering absolutely zero value, this category is either one to skip over or it's one to look at the other nominees and think "payout windfall".   That's because the next shortest odds belongs to Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd and there you would get a payout of $8 for every $1 bet (+800 means you would bet $1 to win $8 or $10 to win $80

Bet on the Oscar Awards: Win a Year's Worth of Cinema Passes

We're celebrating a very special birthday this week when you bet on the Oscar Awards....but the gifts aren't going to the birthday boy - they are going to Gambling911.com readers.

Academy Awards Best Picture Odds (2008)

No Country for Old Men is the runaway favorite when it comes to the Academy Awards Best Picture odds in 2008.  Bodog has No Country for Old Men listed at 4 to 11 odds.  The most you can win with this film is around $16 on a maximum $50 bet.

Javier Bardem Favorite to Win Best Actor With -1300 Odds

Is Javier Barden a "lock" to win Best Actor for his performance in No Country for Old Men?  Some would say "Yes".  Certainly the online gambling websites that have him listed at -1300 odds would.

Oscar Betting (2008)

Oscar Betting for 2008 is currently being offered by BetOnline.com.  The website's odds can be found by clicking on Live Lines, then Future/Props, then Entertainment (all found on the right hand navigation bar).

"Oscar betting has proven to be one of the biggest wagering events of the year and an unprecedented number of inquiries here at Gambling911.com demonstrates just how huge 2008 Oscar betting will be," points out Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien.  "We have alerted all readers to ensure bets are placed early to avoid cataclysmic surges in traffic the immediate hours leading up to Oscar starting time."

Julie Christie Favorite to Win 2008 Oscar for Best Actress

Great Britain will surely be cheering on its representative for this year's Oscars as Julie Christie's betting odds to win "Best Actress" at the 2008 Academy Awards has been listed at -310, a surefire favorite among oddsmakers.

No Country For Old Men Now The Clear Favorite Among Oddsmakers

Carrie Stroup here reporting on the latest Academy Awards betting odds and following No Country for Old Men winning the Screen Writers' Guild Award Sunday night, the film has been made a favorite by oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com.

No Country for Old Men comes in at 1-3 odds, requiring a $3 bet to win $1 (plus you get your initial $3 bet back should it win Best Film).   Initially, No Country for Old Men opened as only a slight favorite when the Academy Awards odds were first released last week.

Something I would like to stress off the bat is that never before has Gambling911.com received so much early interest in the year's Oscar betting.   This is going to be one heck of a year for wagering on the big show, assuming of course it goes off as planned with the current Writer's Strike that I am in full support of as someone who has appeared on television shows such as Scrubs and films like “Starsky and Hutch".   Ahem, I was passed up for a nomination in that film but no hard feelings here.

Odds on the 2008 Academy Awards

The 2008 Academy Awards, set to air February 24th, are already causing quite the buzz with its selections and, more importantly, its rejections.

In the past, it seemed as though the Oscars have modeled their selections after the Golden Globes, but the 80th ceremony is something of the contrary. Hollywood Hotshots such as Keira Knightley was snubbed for Atonement, Tim Burton for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sean Penn for Into the Wild.
