  • AOC says that Biden has let progressive Democrats down

  • Oddsmakers have the GOP taking the Senate at -400 and House at -600

  • Only New Hampshire's Senate seat appears remotely safe among the most vulnerable Democrats in 2024

  • Biden's approval numbers also hit all time low this week

The progressive star, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, better known as AOC, says she’s been vindicated about Joe Manchin and that President Biden must go it alone to save their party in the fall.

"We need to acknowledge that this isn't just about middle of the road, an increasingly narrow band of independent voters," she tells New York Magazine.  This is really about the collapse of support among young people, among the Democratic base, who are feeling that they worked overtime to get this president elected and aren't necessarily being seen."

Oddsmakers at SportsBetting agree that the Dems are in trouble.  Whether it's because of what AOC has brought up remains to be seen.  They have the Republicans taking the Senate at -400.  In other words, the GOP isn't just favored to win, they are a "lock".

The House prognosis for the Democrats is even more grim.  SportsBetting.ag oddsmakers have the Republicans listed at -600 odds there.

Republicans are hammering Democrats for rising inflation and gas prices, which they argue predates the conflict in Ukraine.

The most vulnerable Democratic Senate incumbents, including Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Mark Kelly of Arizona, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, are now pushing for legislation that would suspend the federal gas tax through the end of the year.

Republicans are a favorite to take back the Senate in Georgia (-180), Nevada (-200), and even in Arizona (-160).  Hassan is the only favorite at -160 among the Democrats.

Younger voters, many of whom find AOC appealing, were not exactly invisible in 2020 compared to past years.  Tufts estimated that 50 percent of those ages 18-29, and inclined to vote more Democratic, showed up to vote in the 2020 US presidential election.  That represented an 11-point increase from 2016 (39%).

The news isn't great for US President Joe Biden this week either.

Seven in 10 Americans expressed low confidence in the president's ability to deal with Russia's invasion of Ukraine as his approval fell to 40 percent in the new NBC News poll.

There is zero advantage in the presidential race at this time as Biden, former President Donald Trump and current Florida Governor Rick DeSantis sit in a three-way tie when considering the margin of error.
