Former 888.com Director Summoned to France for Questioning
John Anderson, the non-executive director and former chief executive of online gaming company 888.com, has been summoned for an interview by French authorities.
No further information was immediately available regarding the nature of the questions which the French want to put to Mr. Anderson, but the move will reignite debate as to the legality of online betting in France.
888.com and other online gaming companies serving French customers compete for business with the state-controlled monopolies Francaise de Jeux and Pari-Mutuel Urbain.
“888 is in consultation with its legal advisers with regards to this enquiry and further announcement will be made in due course,” the company said this morning, adding that “Revenue and income from French customers represents an immaterial percentage of the company’s business.”
Shares in 888 Holdings (LSE:888) were down close to 9% in early trading this morning on the news.
