Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas are the favorites to lead after Thursday with a payout potential of $2000 on every $100 bet or $200 on every $20 bet.

For Koepka, his biggest challenge is history entering this week's PGA Championship.  He is looking to make it three in a row as champion.

“I just want to play good golf. It’s simple,” Koepka said when he went to Bay Area in February to preview a PGA Championship that was supposed to be held in May before the COVID-19 pandemic upended golf’s calendar.

“You start thinking about all the things that could happen, that’s when nerve, everything else kind of creeps in. Just stay in the moment and keep plugging along.”

But it is Thomas who comes in this week as the World Number One.

The American clinched victory at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Tennessee, US, by three strokes to regain the world No. 1 ranking for the first time since June 2018 and ending Jon Rahm's brief reign.

Thomas' only major win to date was at the 2017 PGA Championship.

As always, Tiger Woods should see plenty of betting action.  Woods will pay out $3300 for every $100 wagered shoud

Woods said after the Memorial that his swing felt “good.”

“I was able to hit good shots,” he said. “Friday was a bit off physically, but overall for my first week back, it was a lot, a lot of positives.”

Other payout potentials include Rory McIlroy  ($2200 for every $100 bet), Jon Rahm ($2200 for every $100 bet) and Dustin Johnson ($2800 for every $100 bet).

Also among the favorites to win this year's PGA Championship, a bulked up Bryson DeChambeau (pays $2500 on a $100 bet).

Johnson was asked if he needs to add some length to keep up with DeChambeau, he said, “I feel like if I’m playing my game, he can hit it as far as he wants to, and I don’t think he’s going to beat me. I feel like my game and where it’s at and how far I hit it is far enough.

“Until I feel like I need to hit it further to compete or beat these guys, then that’s what I’ll do.’’

DeChambeau comes to this week’s Memorial at Muirfield Village having won his last start, the Rocket Mortgage Championship two weeks ago.

Dubbed 'The Scientist', the American's latest experiment was to pile on three stones in nine months to return from sport's enforced break resembling a weightlifter in golf clothing, writes Alex Bysouth of the BBC.

"I changed my body, I changed my mindset and was able to accomplish a win while playing a completely different style of golf."

(How to Read the Odds: +2000 means that a $100 bet pays out $2000 or a $10 bet pays out $200.  Likewise +4000 means that a $100 bet pays $4000 and a $10 bet pays $400).
