Alabama at Tennessee, Saturday, October 20

There’s always a must-see game in the SEC and this one of them. Not because the Vols have a chance of pulling off the upset, or because they’re in the race for a CFP berth. They don’t and they aren’t. Rather because Saban will be facing one of his former assistants – again. In one of the strangest coaching searches, Tennessee eventually hired Pruitt away from Saban’s staff to become head coach, and for the second time in three seasons, Saban will gaze across the field at his former defensive coordinator.

In 2016 it was Kirby Smart who left to take the head job at Georgia. This time it’s Pruitt, who replaced Smart on Saban’s staff and put together one of the best defenses in college football. The Vols are hoping Pruitt has the same success Smart’s had with the Bulldogs, claiming a SEC title and reaching the CFP in just his second season.

Michigan at Michigan State, Saturday, October 20

If Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines are CFP material we’ll certainly know it during their current stretch of games. After taking on Wisconsin last week, the Wolverines travel to Michigan State, another top contender for the Big Ten East title. Their three-game gauntlet concludes with Penn State in the Big House, but thankfully for the Wolverines they get an off-week before the Nittany Lions. That also means we’ll see Big Blue swing for the fences in this one.

This is Michigan State’s biggest rivalry game and the Spartans get psyched to play it. They won in the Big House last season and have taken eight of the last 10 meetings. The Spartans stunk two years ago and Michigan took advantage by winning in East Lansing. They aren’t as bad as that club was and with added motivation, it should be a barn-burner. UM better take this one seriously or that matchup with Ohio State later in the year will be meaningless.
