2008 US Masters: Still Time to Bet

The 2008 US Masters concludes today (Sunday April 13) but that doesn't mean all bets are off.  BetUS.com - which was offering a free $100 on a $100 deposit - was offering US Masters betting odds throughout the day on Sunday.  In addition to head-to-head matchup odds, BetUS.com was offering betting on odds to win the 2008 US Masters tournament, including live betting throughout the remainder of the event.

"The US Masters has proven to be one of the most bet on events so far this year, a real cash cow for Gambling911.com sponsors," notes Payton O'Brien, Gambling911.com Senior Editor.  "It has provided a much needed boost for the incredible betting frenzy that takes place later this month with the Kentucky Derby."

In fact, while expected to yield some increased business for online bookmakers, the 2008 US Masters wagering activity had come as quite a surprise.

"There was tremendous interest, a lot of which focused on Tiger-Woods related bets, especially the days leading up to the start of the US Masters," disclosed O'Brien.

Golf betting is likely to become the most popular sports wagering activity covered by Gambling911.com after the NFL in terms of overall coverage period.  Events such as March Madness and the Kentucky Derby alone may be more popular but only encompass a short period of time.

"There are a number of other major golf events upcoming including Great Britain's most bet on event of the year, The British Open."

While Woods has helped to boost the popularity in golf betting, it is the payout potentials that have many excited coming into Sunday's final round.

For example, online gambling firms like BetUS.com have been offering odds on the winner of each regional group, thus allowing for more bets to be won.

Heading into Sunday's round, South African Trevor Immelman continued to lead - not just the South African group - but the entire field of US Masters golf participants.  He would pay $1000 for every $100 bet early on and $5000 to win the 2008 US Masters outright.   Anyone wanting Immelman now would have to lay down $100 to win $100 as he was pretty much at even odds heading into Sunday.  Only the lucky few who bet him early enough would enjoy a windfall assuming he walks off with the jacket.

Tiger Woods was one to watch heading into the final round.  He would pay $300 to every $100 bet.  Bets need to be locked in as odds are subject to change (and will change) throughout Sunday afternoon.

The odds at press time appear below but even these were subject to change slightly as action was placed heading into Sunday's round.  A $100 bet on Tiger Woods at press time for example would ensure a $300 payout if he were to win.  Online betting accounts can be open here
