US Open Betting Odds
2007 US Open
betting odds were available heading
into the big weekend and
Sports911.com was set to cover one
of golf's biggest events
Category: Sports911.com -
June 17 and the few days leading up to the 2007 US
Open Final promised to be among the busiest for those
looking to find 2007 US Open betting odds. By
Saturday, June 16 Sports911.com had recorded
substantial traffic for this event. The 2007
US Open became the most sought after golf event in
Sports911.com history for those seeking golf betting
odds.
It should surprise
nobody that Tiger Woods was listed as the early
favorite, though the payout would still be an
impressive $300 for every $100 bet. Some
golfers originally listed under the "field" category
have excelled in the 2007 US Open, including Angel
Cabrera and Bubba Watson. Britain's Nick
Daughtry took the first round lead.
Angel Cabrera (who
ultimately won), Bubba Watson and Jim Furyk were
among those who flirted with the top spot while
Tiger Woods kept it close throughout the final
round.
The purse at the 2006
U.S. Open was $6,800,000, and the winner's share was
$1,225,000. In line with the other majors, winning
the U.S. Open gives a golfer several privileges that
make his career much more secure, if he is not
already one of the elite of the sport. U.S. Open
champions are automatically invited to play in the
other three majors (The Masters, The Open
Championship and the PGA Championship) for the next
five years, as well as the near-major Players
Championship, and they are exempt from qualifying
for the U.S. Open itself for ten years. They may
also receive a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour,
which is automatic for regular members. Non-PGA Tour
members who win the U.S. Open have the choice of
joining the PGA Tour either within 60 days of
winning, or prior to the beginning of any one of the
next five tour seasons.
Ironically, the past
four years have yielded three non-American US Open
champions: South African Retief Goosen (2004), New
Zealander Michael Campbell (2005) and Australian
Geoff Ogilvy (2006).
And now we have a 4th
non-US winner of the US Open with
Angel
Cabrera Winning the 2007 US Open.
Because Cabrera had slipped, oddsmakers assigned him
+3300 odds entering Sunday's final round with a
$3300 payout for every $100 bet.
