Betting on the Kentucky Derby: Payouts can be lucrative

So many people were betting on the Kentucky Derby because payouts can be super rewarding with a very minimal risk.  Even the favorites paid no less than 4 to 1 odds prior to post time.

But many horse experts pointed to some other contenders with even greater payout odds.

Steppenwolfer served as the perfect example and managed to finish an impressive third in the race.  This horse was a favorite among many of the experts Sports911.com has spoken with.  Considered an impressive closer and a horse that has shown vast improvement over recent weeks, Steppenwolfer would have paid out more than $30,000 for every $100 bet at many online race books early on.  He was the "Wise guy's" favorite, which helped to bring his odds to 14 to 1.

BlueGrass Cat would have paid $30,000 for every $100 bet and finished second.

In the end, it was Barbaro who won.  He was the favorite entering the race before having his odds pushed down by Sweetnorthernsaint.  Barbaro finished paying out 5 to 1 odds or $5 for every $1 bet, which is still pretty lucrative.
