with two horses, Brother Derek and Lawyer Ron, both
listed at 3 to 1 odds. You might recall last
year's Kentucky Derby winner was a huge underdog

Brother Derek is owned
by Cecil Peacock. He is trained by Dan Hendricks. In
all of his lifetime starts he has been ridden by
Alex Solis. Brother Derek was bred in California by
Mary H. Caldwell.
Lawyer Ron is owned by
The Estate of James T. Hines, Junior. He is trained
by Bob Holthus and is ridden by John McKee. He was
bred in Kentucky by the late James T. Hines, Junior.

Louisville Courier-Journal writes in regard
to Brother Derek:
Brother Derek is the
colt that Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia
said looks like his 5-2 morning-line Derby favorite
today.
Brother Derek is
the colt who has run over, around, through and past
the competition in California -- and California has
been the Southeastern Conference of 3-year-old
racing this year.
And, with Dan
Hendricks bravely training Brother Derek from a
wheelchair, the colt is certain to get every
feel-good-story $2 bet on May 6.
Lawyer Ron broke to
the lead at the start of the backstretch Saturday
and never looked back, winning the $1 million
Arkansas Derby at Hot Springs, Ark., for his sixth
straight victory.
Trainer Bob Holthus' chestnut colt is 7 for 7 on
dirt – and remains one of the favorites to win three
weeks from now at the Kentucky Derby.
The last two Arkansas Derby winners – Smarty Jones
in 2004 and Afleet Alex last year – each went on to
win two legs of the Triple Crown.
The Kentucky Derby
will take place Saturday May 6 and is unmistakenly
