Final Four
betting odds set: George Mason +4 1/2, LSU -1 1/2
favorite
The suburban
commuter school from Fairfax, Va., George Mason, beat top-seeded
Connecticut 86-84 in overtime Sunday in the
Washington Regional final, ending the stranglehold
that big-time programs have enjoyed for 27 years in
college basketball's biggest showcase.
Early odds of
George Mason winning a national championship were
set at an unbelievable 500 to 1.
For the Final Four
Saturday April 1, George Mason comes in as a +4 1/2
underdog vs. Florida at
PinnacleSports.com (See
Web Site Here). LSU is a
-1 1/2 favorite going up against UCLA in the Final
Four. There's
no mistaking this UCLA team for the ones the Wizard
of Westwood took to the Final Four. Or even for Jim
Harrick's national champions.
The Bruins took
winning ugly to another level in their 50-45 victory
over number one seeded Memphis on Saturday. To the
UCLA players, however, it was a thing of beauty
because they're going to Indianapolis to play in the
Final Four.
"It really was because we're sitting today with
these hats on, these beautiful T-shirts, all that
stuff,'' point guard Jordan Farmar said. "It doesn't
matter what goes on in the game. Me personally,
1-for-9, 50 percent from the free-throw line. I
couldn't be happier right now. I wouldn't have it
any other way. That's all that matters.''
Only once in the rich history of the school had UCLA
scored that few points in a tournament game, coming
in a 43-41 first-round loss to Princeton in 1996.
LSU was originally
listed at 5 to 1 odds to win the Atlanta Region.
Florida had odds of
4 to 1 of winning the Minneapolis Region.
UCLA was listed
with 2 to 1 odds of winning the Oakland Region.
And George Mason
had astonishing payout odds of 100 to 1 to win the
Washington Region.
As for winning a
championship, LSU had early odds of 25 to 1, UCLA 15
to 1, Florida 25 to 1 and George Mason an
unbelievable 500 to 1.
George Mason will
certainly be the team to watch during the Final
Four. Betting on this huge event will include
numerous prop offerings in addition to the usual
half time, spread and totals wagering.
